Ringling International Arts Festival featuring Phare!
As you may have heard we’re incredibly excited to be embarking on our first ever tour of America! It’s only a short trip this time so make sure you know where to be and when if you want to experience the uniqueness of a Cambodian circus!
Ringling International Arts Festival (RIAF) will be the highlight – with Khmer Metal performing over the 15th – 19th of October alongside other talented and accomplished acts.
You may have heard of the world-famous ‘Ringling brothers circus’ – this festival is organised by one of those brothers!
John Ringling was one of the five brothers who owned and operated the circus rightly called “The Greatest Show on Earth.” His success with the circus and entrepreneurial skills helped to make him, in the Roaring Twenties, one of the richest men in America, with an estimated worth of nearly $200 million.
John and his wife established a museum which houses exhibitions, performances, films, programs and events. Their aim? To a great cultural centre on Florida’s West Coast.
In 2016 the museum will open the centre for Asian art, a dynamic new extension of the Museum of Art that will support teaching and research on Asian art and culture. The centre will provide educational opportunities for students and scholars from around the world and enable the public to better understand and appreciate Asian history and society through exhibitions, programs, and publications.
The arts festival, held in Florida each year, is a four day celebration where artists and audiences from across America and the world come together at the Ringling to experience a phenomenon of arts. Hailed for its progressive programme that would rival anything in New York or London (TimeOut London), the Ringling International Arts Festival is your chance to explore and embrace the vibrant and exhilarating world of contemporary music, theatre, and dance.
The RIAF this year has an Asia theme – and they wanted Khmer Metal to be part of it!
