By Sunita Mager – Every year, all of the students attending Phare Ponleu Selpak come together to celebrate their achievements, their creativity and their joy of learning by opening up the school to the public to showcase their work.
Kick-off
During this years Open Day celebration on July 7th and 8th, the students not only showed great enthusiasm by performing in music, theater, dance and circus skills, but they also inspired other future students to enroll in next years classes. And while many youth envisioned going to school there in the near future, others from the Visual annd Arts School were filled with joy and pride as they received their graduation certificate.
Making Memories
The start of the day was kicked off with an opening ceremony followed by performances in theater, dance, circus and music. The audience, friends, family members and staff had the Big Top vibrating with thunderous applause and cheers – before, during and especially after all performances. Event the Kindergartners participated in activities and a performance on campus. Further activities included portrait drawings, Henna body paintings, visual and applied arts school course demonstrations, arts exhibitions and a concert. All of the students work was on display, from each level of the school.
The Joy of Phare
The Open Day celebration was a great event that left everyone happy, hopeful and inspired. Phare Ponleu Selpak has been a breeding ground for arts and culture in Cambodia for the last 20 years and continue to provide public education to over 1200 students annually. Located in beautiful Battambang, students can learn circus arts, theater, music, dance and visual and applied arts.
