Phare Circus wins the Social Purpose / Community Engagement Award from Arival, the voice of the in-destination experiences industry (tourism attractions, activities, experiences, tours).

WINNER: Phare, The Cambodian Circus
Phare, The Cambodian Circus is a circus attraction and social enterprise based in Cambodia. The circus was originally founded to employ graduates of a non-profit school founded for refugees of the Khmer Rouge war. 100% of the circus revenue goes directly into operations and supporting social causes such as the school. Judges also appreciated how the organization empowers youth and models responsible tourism while offering travelers an authentic experience of the area.
What are Arival Spotlight Awards?
The Arival Spotlight Awards, are global awards, with the winners selected from nominations by a panel of experienced and impartial judges. The inaugural edition of the Arival Spotlight Awards includes six categories, which honor tour operators, activities providers, experience creators, and the companies that support them, who reflect the growing innovation, creativity, diversity, specialization, and technology within the in-destination experiences industry.
Phare, The Cambodian Circus tied with The Blue Yonder to win the Social Purpose / Community Engagement Award.

Amazing stewardship and sustainability for the arts through education. This program truly embraces the culture of Cambodia and allows the artists to share their talents while sharing the authentic experience of the area.
This initiative is life changing.
The empowerment of youth is so important and is critical to the sustainability of this program. Phare, The Cambodian Circus is there for the local community and the economy. It’s sole being is for the local community. Engagement seems total. Phare is certainly more than a circus. Phare is all about the community and the history and their lives. Giving a glimpse into their culture through workshops, tours and art.
Phare is the epitome of social enterprise. Clearly everything revolves around the mission statement. 100% of revenue is put back. The local community, the school, are entwined in Phare.
I think the mission statement says it all. The objectives and implementation are there to be seen through tangible results. The lives that have been transformed and helped through the creation of this social enterprise is outstanding and highly commendable.

Craig gets great satisfaction by applying his travel industry experience to Phare's missions of sustaining jobs in the arts and funding artistic and academic education at Phare Ponleu Selpak non-profit school.
