It’s celebration time for 20 years of Phare Ponleu Selpak – and you’re invited!
By Emily Martin
Yes, you read correctly – Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPSA), the NGO School which is dedicated to transforming young Cambodian’s lives through education and art, is celebrating 20 YEARS in the community.
For such a milestone it’s only fitting to throw some sort of party, and on Sunday 15 March a Gala Event will be held at the iconic Sofitel Ballroom in Phnom Penh. On this night the most generous of hearts in the city will come together to celebrate two decades of giving support to vulnerable children, young adults and their families – and will help with the continuation of this mission.
The Gala event will be raising funds to support the ongoing work and future growth of PPSA. With ongoing support of the many people invested in a bright future for Cambodia, Phare is able to continue providing a nurturing and creative environment where young people can access quality arts training, education and social support.
These services are currently offered to almost 1,500 children and young adults, serving as a vital creative resource for the larger community. We believe passionately in the power of the arts as a tool for human development and social change.
Mr. Khuon Det is the Artistic Director of PPSA’s Performing Arts Department and is one of the co-founders of the association. He’s never waivered in his passion and belief of arts used for healing and transformation. “This Gala Event represents a major milestone for us at Phare Ponleu Selpak. For 20 years, Phare Ponleu Selpak has made an impressive impact on the lives of vulnerable children, young adults and their families who are desperately in need of support”
The event will feature a performance of Sokha, a breathtaking ensemble group of circus, music and live painter performers. The event will also recount the history of Phare Ponleu Selpak, as the show is a metaphor for the association’s origins.
Before the show, the Sofitel Hotel will provide guests with a delicious brunch and following the show, the paintings created through the event will be sold at an auction. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs after the event.
