Cambodian tourism is booming. As more people visit the region and more tourism facilities are created it’s becoming more and more important for businesses to not only have a good product, but also be aware of their social responsibilities.
There are a number of organisations that support the work of Phare who we want to highlight for the responsible work they do within the Cambodian community.
In this series, we will introduce you to the great contributions to Cambodia by places like Beyond Unique Escapes, The Park Hyatt, ABOUTAsia, Shinta Mani and Song Saa Private Island. These companies and others offer a top-of-the range, quality product – while making sure they have a positive effect in the environment and society around them.
It’s called CSR – Corporate Social Responsibility. The movement is spreading across the globe and it ensures that companies conduct their business in a way that is ethical. This means taking account of their social, economic and environmental impact, and consideration of human rights.
Consumers these days are no longer looking just for the best product. Environmental and social issues are climbing to the forefront of people’s minds and so businesses are adapting to that – for the better.
There are a number of ways that businesses have taken on board this way of working. Some give non-profit organisations a portion of their profits, some give away a product or service to a worthy recipient for every sale made, and some start their own projects to help the community.
We’re looking forward to sharing with you the responsible work some companies are doing in Cambodia. If you know of any great organisations who you think should be featured in this series – comment below!
