Apsara Authority introduces the “Angkor Visitor Code of Conduct”.
Angkor Archeological Park is one of the most important sites in South-East Asia, with the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. Angkor temples exemplify cultural, religious and symbolic values, as well as contain high architectural, archeological and artistic significance. It’s no surprise that Angkor Wat is a Wonder of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Millions of visitors annually come to Cambodia mainly to see Angkor temples, however they are largely unaware of the religious and cultural significance. Visitors may not realize that their behavior should be respectful when visiting Angkor temples. Therefore, the Apsara Authority has launched an educational campaign to inform visitors of the significance and guide their behavior during their visit.
The video concept is similar to the “Crying Indian” public service video in the ’70s in the United States as an effort to encourage more respect for the environment.
